RE: Renting your motorhome

Would you rent your beach condo??? Sure you would, and many do. But, you probably wouldn't do it yourself, you would go through a property management firm. Thats exactly what we did several years ago when our situation changed and due to the economy, sale of the MH wasn't possible. My MH became one of their fleet. They worried about security deposits, cleaning, routine maintenance, bookings, rates, etc. I was responsible for taxes, depreciation, big ticket maintenance items (tires, breaks), and insurance, which is a specialty policy for rental units.
It worked for me. I stopped worrying about selling the MH, had a break even cash flow for 3 years, and ended up with a high mileage, very used MH that I traded for a new model.
Having said that, would I lend/rent my "personal" MH on an individual basis? No way.

RE: gatlinburg/ pigeon forge

This is not the typical country music fare expected in the area...but Cirque du Chine at the Smokey Mountain Palace is a great show.

RE: LBL Damage from Hurricane Ike?

here is the latestclick here
Thanks for posting this Bob...I didn't realize the extent of the damages that far north. The "news" networks were in such a hurry to get back to all McCain/Obama all the time, that the aftermath of the storm has hardly been covered.

RE: RVers' favorite restaurants

Thanks for the link.
Here is another site that I find very useful for trip planning:
www.RoadFood.com
It is much like this forum but for restaurants and diners. There are restaurant reviews accessible by state, or you can go to the forums and search on the area you are visiting and see what others recommend. Just like RV Net (You have to join to access the forums.)

RE: Charlotte NC area CG's

If all you need is a place to park, hook up and stay - then Field Ridge Acres will do.
The last time I was in the area of Lakeside Lodge & Crown International Campground, I did a drive thru - not really impressive, but again, if all you need is a place to stay, then I guess it would be OK.
We had some fulltimer friends that stayed a couple of seasons at Fieldridge and liked it.
I didn't even realize that the old PTL campground (Lakeside Lodge & Crown International Campground) was open again. If it is, then it would be a quiet place, and since they have opened the "back road" from there back into Pineville, it may not be too bad of a commute.

RE: biltmore estate

Builtmore is great...if you have time, do the "behind the scenes" tour; they take you to some of the areas of the house that are not open to the public and the guides for those tours are pretty good.
The farmers market is very good, especially in the fall when the apples and other fall items are in.
Uptown is a favorite of ours too. Wall Street and the area right around there has some very good restaurants: Early Girl Eatery, Jack-o-the-Woods Pub, Tupleo Honey Cafe.

RE: best CG at the Outer Banks

Camp Hatteras is good for what you are looking for. Pool for the kids, great beach access. Just make reservations early if you are going in the summer prime time. We have a few pictures on our signature link.

RE: Anyone know of Walmart in Southern Maine that allows RVs

The Wal-Mart in Scarboro is not too far from the Cabelas - and allows RVs according to reports. Be sure to ask when you get there as a courtesy.

RE: kitten and toilet paper

Maybe she's wants to use the toilet instead of the litter box? Our Bobbi will not do that, but I know that many people have trained their cat to use and flush the commode!

RE: Pigeon Forge, TN

Glad everyone is having a great time in PF. We were going to go there for our annual vacation trip next week. When I tried to make reservations, I found out about the car shows for the next two weeks...so we decided to go somewhere else. They say they are expecting 62,000 cars next week!

RE: Sites in Huntington Beach State Park

Yes, we have stayed there in the motorhome. They are all relatively private, basically carved out of the woods there. Not a whole lot to say about them since they are all pretty much the same. There is a bathhouse located on that back loop too. They also paved all the roads this spring making it a lot nicer with less dust.

RE: Something sneaky on Reserve America

They do the same thing on Ticketmaster now. My son ordered some concert tix and began receiving a magazine. He finally got a post card from the company saying that he had been charged $19.99 for the mag. If he wanted to NOT subscribe, then send the card back in an envelope to the provided address and mark the card with the word REBATE in upper case letters.
I suspect it is the same deal with Reserve America
They make it real easy to get this stuff... and very hard to stop it after the fact.

RE: San Francisco Campground

A few years ago we stayed at the Novato RV Park. It was very convenient to the hwy and not too far from the Golden Gate Bridge. We had no problem commuting into the Fisherman's Wharf area to park for the day and see the sites. The sites are tight but it is a very clean and convenient place to stay.
We did try to drive Hwy 1 Northbound from Hwy 128 near Albion to where it joins the 101 again, then stayed on 101 until we got to Crescent City. We had planned on the 101 all the way up the Oregon Coast, but the fog caused us to bail at Crescent City. When it's 100 degrees in the valley, the cold moist air from the Pacific gets kinda thick!

RE: Vermont campground

If you are up near the Stowe area, try Gold Brook Campground. Nothing fancy, but plenty of room for big rigs and plenty of wide open spaces for the kids. Kind of an old style playground and no pool, but you are near Ben & Jerrys and all the hiking and biking you can handle in the Stowe area.

RE: Mt. Mitchell, NC

You may want to check out Buck Creek. It's a private CG just outside Marion NC just off Hwy 80. Very quiet place with a real swimmin' hole.
Also be sure to check the Blue Ridge Parkway website for updates. Last I heard the BRP was closed just south of Mount Mitchell and was planned to be that way for a quite a while.

RE: Lake Erie State Park info needed

We were at Lake Erie SP in the fall of '06. We were there a week or two before the park closed for the season. Us southerners are not used to that, the place was almost empty. We checked out the cabins. They are rustic and right on the lake shore. Unfortunately I didn't make any pictures of the cabins. We do have several pictures of the campground - click on this link to go to Our Dotphoto Site. And here is where I wrote about that segment of our New England Trip including the stop at Lake Erie SP. New England Trip Report The pictures you see of the sunsets were taken right in front of one of the cabins.
All in all, it was a very nice, large campground with well spaced sites. If I remember correctly, we did not have water at our site. Some of the sites could reach a water spigot, but they were just scattered around the campground. Take a tank full or a long hose. There is a large beach area and trails.
Another thing, be sure to watch for the low bridge clearances in that area. I was about ready to follow the signs directing us from Hwy 20 in Brocton to the state park. I was already in the left turn lane when fortunately, I noticed a low clearance sign a few yards down the street onto which I was about to turn. We ended up staying on Hwy 20 east bound to the next town and then over to Hwy 5 and back west to the park.

RE: 1 More Week!!!! Then its off to Charleston!!!!!

If you like Seafood try Hymans for great seafood in downtown Charleston.
Ditto that!
With Kids in mind:
The Battery
Fort Sumter (This is an especially good outing for kids and adults alike!)
Old South Carriage Tours (seems kinda cheesy, but with the right guide, you get a very good tour and insight into the history.. I would do this first)
The Aquarium (if its really hot and you want to be indoors)
Food, food, food. (Try this site and do a search for Charleston www.roadfood.com
We have some pictures from past trips at the link in the signature below.
